Useful Tips
- Toronto tap water is perfectly safe to drink. Carry a re-fillable water bottle with you to fill at public fountains and taps
- In cold weather dress in layers which can be added or taken off based on the temperature and how you feel
- The bus, streetcar and subway system (the TTC) is excellent. Consider buying a day pass to get around town
- If you take a streetcar make sure to look to your right before you step out onto the road. Cars are supposed to stop when the doors open, but sometimes don't.
- Toronto is relatively flat, and is trying to become more bicycle friendly with dedicated cycling lanes. However, cyclists are expected to follow the same rules of the road as cars
- Like most large cities, there are a lot of homeless people in Toronto, but they are usually very polite. When asked for money simply look them in the eye and say, "No, I'm sorry."
- As with all cities, avoid traveling alone in sketchy areas at night, be aware of your surroundings, and take care with your personal belongings
- Toronto is a very safe city with a very professional police force. Do not hesitate to seek help from a police officer if you need it
- If a restaurant is busy, the food is likely very good.
- If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please inform your server. Dishes can often be modified or altered to accommodate.
